7 creative podcast recording studios outside of London

If you’ve read some of the other Studio Cotton blog posts about podcasts, you’ll already know that podcasting is a pretty darn good way for creatives to get their name and brand out there. So I wanted to go on a little quest to find some podcast recording studios that felt creatively welcoming.

Now, I don’t know about you, but for me, when it comes to surfing the trusty old Google search engine for small business resources, many of the results that show up first tend to be based in London. As much as I enjoy a trip to the big smoke from time to time, I thought I’d dive a little deeper to find some websites offering podcast recording services in other areas of the UK.

If you’re a London outsider (or even an insider who wants to venture out) and you’re looking to record your own podcast in a studio or get some expertise, perhaps one of these places will tickle your fancy.

Factory Studios

Bristol

Let’s start things off in our wonderful home dwelling.

A multi-disciplinary hub set up for things like video production, content creation, photography, music recording, rehearsals and pre-productions, you won’t fall short of talented creative folk to meet and collaborate with here.

And if (like me) you enjoy a bit of natter about films, check out Maisie Williams’ Frank Film Club Podcast, which was recorded here.

Factory Studios also supports local and grassroots podcasts such as Bristol's very own Least of Our Problems podcast.

Sound Yard

Norwich

This place is serving up all the warm community feels with the help from their gorj mustard yellow shop frontage.

A non-profit organisation aiming to amplify under-heard voices, Sophie and Anna quit their jobs as freelance audio producers at the BBC for a new venture setting up their small business, making audio and podcasting more accessible.

Pop yourself along to one of their fun and creative group workshops and development sessions to get a taster for what it takes to put together your lovely own podcast.

Future Leap

Bristol

If there was ever a place to feel at peace in your environment while creating a podcast, working in an old chapel building with period features might just be one way.

As a carbon neutral business, here you'll find a media studio for recording and filming your podcast, as well as a photography studio.

Annnd there is a co-working space in this building, so you can record your podcast and do your editing all under one beautiful roof.

Nottingham

I’d be tempted to start my own podcast simply for all the cute plants, colourful cushions and props you can personalise the space with here to make it all comfortable and cosy.

Perfect for newbies, everything is built into the package including inductions, equipment and guidance, so you can have a play around and get a feel for whether wearing the podcasting coat floats ya boat.

Anywhere in the UK

Ok, so maybe you don't wanna travel somewhere to record your podcast - you've already got the perfect space set up, you just need some equipment and assistance.

Then Podshop is your calling. As a service offering both on-location and remote recording, you can film your podcast wherever you want with the help from these guys, be it in the comfort of your own home. Is that a little bit cushty? I think so.
